In my post “Backup Early and Often”, I blogged about how I implemented my backup strategy.

Although I was generally happy with it, one important part was missing: off-site backups.

On Friday, November 23, 2012, I got a real bargain during a Black Friday sale.

CrashPlan started by giving away subscriptions for free and then gradually adding features every hour. When I read about it, I thought it was a good chance to give them a try and finally got the CrashPlan+ Family subscription for 119.99.

I can now back up an unlimited amount of data to their servers for one year.

Since I subscribed, I have almost pushed all my ~200GB of image data to their servers. It took some time, since I could only do that from home when the drive with all my images was connected, but with a couple of hours more I should be finished.

The following screenshot was taken when I started uploading all image files.

The next screenshot is from today.

Now I can really relax. Even if something happens to all my working and backup drives, my data will still be available.

I’m not sure what I ‘ll do when my subscription ends. I may pay the full fee or try something else. Amazon Glacier looks very tempting.

Done for today!
